I. INTRODUCTION: NI-12 "MOISTURE CURING" polyurethane resin is a single
component, oil free, transparent coating, which dries quickly by a combination of solvent
release, and polymerization initiated by both moisture in the atmosphere and/or the
addition of catalyst. When cured, NI-12 is resilient, extremely abrasive resistant, and
superior to most resin systems available today.
II. TYPICAL USES
A. Commercial, Industrial and Residential Flooring
1. Seamless Flooring
2. Hardwood Floor Coating
3. Concrete Floor Coating - Dust-proofing
III. ADVANTAGES AND LIMITATIONS
A. ADVANTAGES
1. Fast Dry
2. High Gloss
3. Exceptional Holdout Qualities
4. Abrasion resistance
5. Good Adhesion
6. Water Resistance
7. Resistance to Many Solvents
8. Resistance To Grease And Staining
9. Resistance To Mild Acids And Alkalis
B. LIMITATIONS
1. NI-12 should not be applied at temperatures below 50°
F.
2. Solvent Release: NI-12 contains an aromatic solvent that evaporates during its cure.
This solvent should be dispersed from the area by adequate ventilation.
3. Ambering: NI-12 will amber slightly with aging and direct sunlight. To reduce the
degree of ambering, a top finish of NI-22 can be applied over NI-12.
IV. COLOR: Clear but can be pigmented using special
pigments. Contact Northern @ 401-821-2121

C. DRYING: The higher the humidity and the temperature, the faster NI-12 will cure.
Under normal conditions of 60° F to 90°
F and relative humidity above 35%, NI-12 can be walked on 5-12 hours after application.
NI-12 can be buffed and re-coated when tack free to foil in 3-10 hours after application.
NI-12 requires approximately one hour or less to "dry to touch", three to four
hours to " harden" and about 7 days to cure.

VI. APPLICATION
A. COVERAGE: On smooth non-porous surfaces, up to 650
square feet per gallon.
B. TOOLS: A good quality brush, lambs-wool applicator, or mohair roller, kept well
filled, will insure an even coat.
C. PREPARATION: Surface must be thoroughly cleaned by sandblasting, wire brushing,
scraping or other means to remove loose paint, mill scale, rust, etc. All grease, oil, or
other matter must be removed by a suitable solvent. The first coat of NI-12 should be
reduced to a 30% solid; second coat then can be applied at 40% level.
1. MASONRY: Surface must be clean, and dry, and free from grease, oil or other
foreign matter. Concrete should be etched, neutralized and allowed to completely dry.
2. NEW WOOD: Surface must be clean, dry, and free from grease, oil or other foreign
matter. No primer is required.
3. OLD WOOD: Clean and sandpaper surface.
D. APPLICATION:
1. Apply to surface with a good quality applicator.
2. Time between Coats: Any number of successive coats of NI-12 can be applied provided
24 hours have not transpired since the previous application.
E. CAUTION: Contains flammable liquids. Keep away from heat, sparks and fire. Do not
leave container open. Use with adequate ventilation. Wear protective goggles and
respirator. Avoid prolonged or repeated breathing of vapor. Avoid prolonged or repeated
contact of liquid with skin. FOR INDUSTRY USE ONLY.
VII. PACKAGING: 55 and 30 gallon drums, 5-gallon pails
VIII. STORAGE DATA: NI-12 Aromatic Polyurethane should be stored in a cool, dry and
safe area. Always rotate inventory, using oldest materials first. Shelf life is
approximately 4 months in a factory sealed container. | |
